Safety Shred Days

Canadian Edition

April 6th, 2026

The Safety Shred Days are crossing the Atlantic for their first edition in Canada!

For 8 years in France, Safety Shred Days has brought together freeride enthusiasts looking to learn how to ride safely. The event has become a key reference for mountain safety in Europe. This year, Safety Shred Days will take place for the first time in Whistler, a prime freeride destination in Canada, as part of the World Ski & Snowboard Festival.

The format: a full-day immersive experience for riders of all levels, with on-snow workshops, hands-on scenarios, and interactions with mountain professionals. Avalanche awareness, decision-making, and risk management : the focus is on practical, real-world experience in this condensed format.

MONDAY APRIL 6: MOUNTAIN SKILLS SESSION BY ARC'TERYX

Location: The Adventure Group, Whistler Blackcomb.

Start of the day: 8:00 AM (check-in). Sessions: 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM

The Mountain Skills Mountain Skills sessions are designed for intermediate to advanced looking to improve their safety skills, decision-making, and emergency response in mountain environments.

Participants will spend the day working through hands-on, guide-led clinics focused on practical backcountry safety skills, including:

  • Crevasse rescue and rope systems for glaciated and high-alpine terrain

  • Wilderness first aid scenarios, including improvised splinting, hypothermia management, and emergency evacuation decisions

  • Companion rescue techniques for avalanche incidents, including modern transceiver search strategies, probing, and efficient shovelling methods

The emphasis is on real-world application: how to communicate clearly, respond quickly, and manage emergencies with the tools already in your pack.

You won’t leave with a formal credential; the focus is on practical application, communication under stress, and building habits that transfer directly into backcountry and sidecountry environments.
